All functions related to heating and ventilation of the passenger compartment in AUDI 80 vehicles can be set from the passenger compartment using the switches on the heater and fan control unit. Cable pulls are extended from these switches to the dampers in the air intake box. These dampers control the air flow.
Removal and installation of all cable drives are generally the same.
1. Remove the glove box.
2. Remove the radio.
3. Remove the handles of all three rotary switches on the heater and fan control box.
4. Remove the two Phillips head screws located under the rotary switches.
5. Remove the heater and fan control panel.
6. Remove the four Phillips head screws.
7. Pull out the heater and fan control unit itself from the opening on the instrument panel. The block cannot be completely removed yet, but this will be enough to provide access to the fastening of the cable rods to the elements of the block.
8. Pull out the cable lock with a screwdriver (see illustration)
9. Disconnect draft from the drive lever. The end of the cable traction is tied in the form of an eyelet and hung on the drive lever. The sheath of cable rods is fixed on the lugs of the air dampers and fixed with plastic couplings.
