Headlight adjustment (Audi 100 C4)

The headlights are adjusted from the inside of the engine compartment, i.e. The adjusting bolts are located in the holes in the hood latch fastening part. A hex wrench is required for adjustment. Special on installed headlights is the location and operation of the adjusting bolts, which act oppositely for different headlight manufacturers. Location of headlight adjustment bolts

If a Bosch headlight is installed, then the bolt (1) serves to adjust left and right, and the bolt (2) - for up and down adjustment.

If a Valeo headlight is installed, the bolt (1) serves for height adjustment, and the bolt (2) - for horizontal adjustment.



Headlight adjustment should be done using a special adjustment device, and only as a last resort should you try to correct or change the adjustment. For adjustment, the car should be placed at right angles to a wall or garage door and the headlights turned on. The distance to the wall should be about 5 meters.


If you have headlight range adjustment, you need to set the knob to the position "ABOUT". In most cases, adjusting just one headlight is not enough; need to move the lighting pattern "good" headlight to another headlight. After self-adjustment, as soon as possible, you need to visit the workshop for a more accurate adjustment.

Assuming the car is stored in a garage (those. Has a garage door) and the headlights are finely adjusted (e.g. in the workshop with precision instruments), you can park the car exactly 5 meters in front of the gate, turn on the high beam and mark the centers of the light beams of both headlights on the garage door using crosses. If you ever need to check the headlight alignment, you can again put the car in front of the garage door in the same way to make sure that the centers of the light launches coincide with the crosses on the garage door. If this is not the case, then adjustments can be made. It should be noted that for headlights of different manufacturers, the adjusting bolts act differently.
