Removal, check and installation of the oil pump (Audi 100 C3)

Order of execution

1. Remove oil pan (cm. pp. 1–5 of subsection 3.1.2.13).

2. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the oil pump with the oil receiver.

3. Loosen the two screws and remove the pump cover.

4. Remove the drive shaft and pump drive gear.

5. Remove the oil receiver and remove the strainer.

6. Wash all parts of the pump in gasoline.





7. Check the gap between the teeth of the gears, as shown in the figure on the left. The nominal gap is 0.05 mm, the maximum allowable gap is 0.2 mm. Check the gap between the gear and the pump housing, it should be 0.15 mm. Check the axial clearance of the gears as shown in the figure on the right. It should be no more than 0.15 mm.

8. After replacing defective parts, lubricate all parts of the pump with engine oil.

9. Assemble and install the pump in reverse order.
