Warning: The engine does not need to be warmed up when the vehicle is stationary. The engine warms up when driving in lower gears. After starting, you can immediately start moving. While the engine is warming up, do not allow it to run at a high speed.
Warning: At low ambient temperatures, it is recommended to depress the clutch pedal when starting the engine, so that the starter can more easily turn the engine crankshaft with thickened oil.
Warning: Cars with catalytic converters are not recommended to be towed to start the engine, as in this case pure gasoline enters the converter, which can ignite after starting the engine and damage the converter.
Warning: When starting a diesel engine while the glow plugs are warming up, do not turn on any electrical consumers.
Carbureted engine
1. Turn on the ignition.
2. Turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal.
3. If the engine does not start within 10 seconds, stop starting. You can start the engine again after about 30 seconds.
4. If the engine does not start after three attempts, you must find and fix the problem.
5. When the ambient temperature is below 0°C after starting the engine, you can move off after a few seconds.
6. When starting a hot engine, press the accelerator pedal at the time of starting. After the engine has started, release the accelerator pedal.
Engine with fuel injection system
1. Turn on the ignition.
2. Turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal.
3. If the engine does not start within 10 seconds, stop starting. You can start the engine again after about 30 seconds.
4. If the engine does not start after three attempts, it is necessary to find and eliminate the malfunction. Most likely, the cause of this is a blown fuel pump fuse or a failure of the fuel pump itself.
5. After starting a hot engine with unstable operation, lightly press the accelerator pedal.
6. When starting the MC model, lightly depress the accelerator pedal during starting.
Diesel engine
1. Turn on the ignition. At the same time, power is supplied to the glow plugs and the control lamp on the instrument panel lights up. The control lamp goes out as soon as the glow plugs warm up to operating temperature. Only then can the starter be turned on.
2. Turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal. For turbocharged engines at ambient temperatures below 0°C, lightly press the accelerator pedal when starting.
3. Crank the engine with the starter until it starts to run evenly (but not more than 20 s).
4. If a cold engine does not start, warm up the glow plugs again before restarting (control lamp is on). If the candles are warm (control lamp does not light up), the engine can be started immediately.
5. If, when starting a cold engine, its significant vibration is felt, turn the knob 16 (see fig. Dashboard of pre-January 1988 models) speed controller to achieve smooth engine operation.
