2. To adjust the handbrake, jack up the rear of the vehicle.
Models with drum rear brakes
3. Release the handbrake.
4. From under the vehicle, loosen the handbrake cable set nut in the cable compensator (photo).
5. Depress and release the brake pedal once.
6. Move the handbrake lever to the third notch on the ratchet.
7. Squeeze the cable adjusting nut until both rear brakes engage, but you can still turn the drums by hand.
8. Release the handbrake, the rear drums should rotate freely.
9. Lubricate the threads of the set nut and compensator with multipurpose grease.
Models with disc rear brakes
10. Remove both rear wheels, the handbrake must be fully released.
11. From under the car, clamp the handbrake cable mounting nut into the compensator (photo 19.4), until the brake levers on both rear calipers hit the stoppers (Pic. 9.23).
12. Now loosen the hand brake adjusting nut two full turns.
13. Move the hand brake control lever on the left caliper with a screwdriver so that it rests on the stopper (Pic. 9.22 and 9.23). Lock the lever in this position, the control lever on the right caliper should also rest against the stopper. If not, loosen the cable adjusting nut until both levers stop at the stops.
14. Lubricate the threads of the adjusting nut and compensator with multipurpose grease, install the wheels and lower the vehicle.
